Music

Music is a very important element of worship at our 10:30am Sunday service and for other special seasons throughout the church year. The spirit of this music ministry is guided by our gifted Music Director, Owen Bloomfield.

Owen is an active community musician. He has a busy studio in Cambridge, Ontario, where he teaches piano, theory and composition. He is also an active composter with performances across Canada and as far flung as Boston, Amsterdam, and Honolulu. He is an active member of the Canadian League of Composers and is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre.

Owen was the long-time music director for St Matthias Anglican Church in Guelph (later Church of the Apostles). He is known for his engaging and progressive music in a variety of styles.

St James' choir is comprised of a faithful group of singers who love music and take seriously their ministry as music leaders in our congregation. They are dedicated and committed volunteers, responsible for animating and encouraging participation through music in the liturgy and other celebrations. The choir is open to welcoming new voices throughout the year, offering special opportunities at Easter and Christmas to join for a season. Voices of all ages are welcome.

Many different music resources are consulted when choosing worship music throughout the church year - festive, traditional, contemplative or contemporary. On any given Sunday, a variety of piano, guitar, flute, violin, drum or organ can be heard throughout the service!
